Each program's maximum added up. The top federal amount is for households below the median income, and the federal government hasn't said yet exactly how it combines with provincial programs.
Ontario and British Columbia have their own sites, with full checkers for their provincial programs.

National Heat Pump Rebate
Checked 19 Oct 2026
Income test
The federal government has only said "below the median income" (a later release says "low- to median-income"). It hasn't said whether that's before or after tax, by household size or province, or which tax year.
Launch date
An Oct 16, 2026 federal release says it's launching in 2027. "Early 2027" has only come from press reports of the Prime Minister's comments.
Installs done before launch
Nothing official yet. Press reports disagree on whether heat pumps installed this fall will count, so keep every receipt.
Eligible Products List
The federal government says it will have over 100,000 models, but the list isn't public yet.
Ground-source heat pumps
Not mentioned. The announcement only names cold-climate air-source heat pumps.
Renters and home types
Not covered yet. The backgrounder says a landlord can claim for a rental they own (but then not for their own home).
Common questions
Short answers on the federal rebate, how it stacks and when it opens.
The federal government says 2027. "Early 2027" has only come from press reports of the Prime Minister's comments, and there's no start date in writing yet. Sign up on this site and we'll email you when it opens.
Up to $10,000 is for households below the median income, and $2,000 is for other eligible households. The federal government hasn't published how it will measure median income (before or after tax, by household size or province, or which tax year), so nobody can tell you yet which one you'd get. The old federal oil program used after-tax income checked through the CRA, but that isn't confirmed for this one.
Yes. The Prime Minister's announcement says the rebate can be combined with existing provincial programs. Provinces have their own limits though. Manitoba caps funding from all sources at the cost of the equipment, and Nova Scotia only pays on capacity you add, so the checker applies each province's rules.
Not for the federal rebate. The federal government says there's no audit before or after the install. Some provincial programs still need one, like Efficiency Nova Scotia's assessment rebate.
Rebate Check is an independent guide, not a government site. If you ask us for installer quotes and you go ahead with the job, the installer may pay us a referral fee. That doesn't change your rebate, and the amounts on this site come from the official program pages.
